I have a Coolpix 4800; I jammed the lens in an adapter during digiscoping. and your problem will be fixed. Turned it on and then off again and the lens cover finally closed.

Last night I **carefully** took everything apart and cleaned the sand off, but when I put it all back together, the camera was completely dead. Method #7 work for me... Removing and replacing the battery did the trick. I only had to tap it gently, but was afraid to until your encouragement. The clue, to me, that this might work is that the spray initially seeme to make the problem worse.
